Traditional and non-traditional oikonyms of Eastern Lithuania

Abstract

The article examines the differences between the traditional Lithuanian forms of Eastern Lithuanian oikonyms and the later non-traditional Slavic forms. Regional differences and numbers of oikonyms according to formation, slavization in counties from Šalčininkai to Daugavpils are presented. There are five ways of slavicization of oikonyms of the Lithuanian language.
